Italian fishing village and well known tourist resort, which develops around its port. It has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters¹ and cool and pleasant summers. In the late 19th century, tourism from northern Europe began to discover Portofino with more and more tourists turning to semi-permanent residents, buying villas so they could enjoy the feeling of summer breeze on a more permanent basis. It was such an impression that caused the unknown Mediterranean microclimate² to the North Europeans, which did not delay tourism to sideline fishing as the main activity of the city, with the waterfront being filled with restaurants and cafes.
